ABOUT LOUISE

LOUISE LIMB

A little Background

Louise has been working as an illustrator, mainly in pen and wash for over forty years, diverting sometimes into gouache, acrylic and oil and using Adobe Photoshop occasionally to build on and refine her work. She also takes photographs and writes for magazines and has even found time occasionally to pursue her own work as an artist.

She gained her first degree, a BA Hons in Fine Art from Leeds University in 1982, following this with an MA (with distinction) in Printmaking from Bradford College, conferred by Leeds Metropolitan University in 2008. Louise tries to ensure that her background in fine art informs her illustration work, encouraging her to research carefully, often painstakingly, then analyse and question her practice.

Already having an interest in all things automotive, In 1983 she met the editor of a new UK-based custom motorcycle magazine called Back Street Heroes and the rest, as they say, is history. She has been illustrating for this publication ever since.

Louise’s Work

Opportunities for Land Rover and other magazines followed, along with book illustration, and Louise worked on all these publications while holding down the day job – lecturing in Art and Design at a local college – and bringing up four daughters. It was while working on Classic Bike Guide in 2009 that she first decided to start putting her work together into signed calendars. The small-scale print runs have proved popular yet very special and exclusive.

She is currently working on Back Street HeroesClassic Land Rover magazine and Classic Military Vehicle magazine, together with undertaking private commissions and other projects.
